Chapter Thirteen

"It should be simple, but she felt uneasy about Urchin.  He was dangerous; too strange, too unpredictable, showing up when he wasn't wanted, capable of wrecking everything without even trying, and much too helpful to Padra." (p. 141)

Why did Lady Aspen have these feelings about Urchin?  Please support your thinking with evidence from the text.

  1. I think she was having those feelings because Urchin fell out of the window, he smelled fusty, and she didn't know what he was up to.

  2. I agree with John. I would be suspicious if I was looking at that from Lady Aspen's perspective.

  3. I don't think its just that he fell from a window and that he smelled fusty, he also fell from the sky. Or as Apple says he washed up on the shore. Wouldn't that be kind of strange too?

  4. I think that its because he fell out of the window, smelt all fusty, and Gleaner might have told her about him falling from the sky and Apple, like jake said he got washed up on the shore on the night of the riding stars.

  5. I think you all need to think a little deeper on this one. And what does "fusty" mean?

  6. I think Lady Aspen felt uncomfortable with working with Urchin because he could betray her or mess up almost all the time.

  7. Please expand your thinking and try to find examples of the things Lady Aspen mentioned.

  8. Fusty means bad or unpleasant.

  9. Fusty means you smell bad or like death i think this because it smells bad in the underground castle, where Urchin was.

  10. Lady Aspen mentioned that she thought she heard that "Urchin came from the sky." She also mentioned that he might have gotten drunk and that's why he fell out the window.

  11. I think that Lady Aspen thinks that Urchin is unpredictable because that she thought that Urchin was drunk because when he fell out of the window, he smelled fusty. I think that at the tower people have higher expectations, so I think that when Urchin fell out of the window, I think that means that Urchin was sort of unpredictable because he fell out of the window. I think fusty means that Urchin smelled bad or unpleasant.

  12. I don't think that Lady Aspen really trusts Urchin because he has been doing things that really shouldn't happen. For example, Urchin fell out of the window and smelled fusty. Apple also couldn't tell were Urchin truly came from, so Lady Aspen might think that Urchin could have been sent out to murder Tumble or something else. Like the queen's death.

  13. I think Lady Aspen meant that she was not sure if Urchin was a good squirrel or not, or if he made good decisions.

  14. I believe Lady Aspen was embarrassed and uncomfortable with Urchin because only a few people knew where he came from and Lady Aspen was one of the people who knew and she's curious and uncertain about what he wants to accomplish at some times.

@ Mr Budgar I think fusty means sort of a stuffy smell that smells like dust or mold. It may mean something else that gradually creates a smell over time.
